Report on Activities conducted by Mahatma International School in Mathematics to mark the 128th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan on 22nd December, 2015.

16th December, 2015

The mathematics relay race was conducted on 16th December, 2015. The students were divided in 5 groups each consisting of 8 students. Questions related to the syllabus of the class were asked to each student. The students moved ahead only after solving / answering the question. The race continued in this fashion. The students enjoyed this play way of learning.

17th December, 2015

Activity on Magic Squares
Magic squares have always been a very interesting game among students to solve. Different types of magic squares were given to the students to solve. Specifying the conditions of addition horizontally, vertically and diagonally and fill in the missing squares. Students were curious and anxious to know the answers and solved enthusiastically.

18th December, 2015

An Interactive session on Mathematics was conducted on 18th December, 2015 for classes IX and X. On various topics like Mathematics in nature, mathematics in Architecture, Pascal’s triangle, vedic maths. Various charts were prepared by students for e.g. Maths in Architecture-They prepared a pyramid and a house in the shape of a cone and cylinder. The students explained their areas and questions were asked to the other students and doubts were cleared. Mathematics in nature- trigonometry, shapes related to daily life. Charts were prepared and explained. Pascal’s triangle was drawn and explained. Sums were solved based on Vedic maths. Students became aware of various concepts based on the above topics.

19th December, 2015

Quiz competition was held for grade V and VI based on the syllabus of their grades. The students were divided in to 4 groups and various rounds were organized i.e. Rapid fire round, visual round, solving the sums, theoretical questions etc. The students participated enthusiastically and answered the questions with interest. The students were able to understand and recapitulate the concepts they have learnt.

21st December, 2015

Mathematical games like Sudoku was conducted among students of grade VI and VII. Students are already aware of these games as they solve in either magazines or newspapers and they find it very interesting. They enjoyed solving Sudoku as they were curious to see which number will be filed in the gaps. The week was concluded with a collage of all the activities taken together by assembling all the charts made by the students and putting it on the notice board so as to showcase the talents and knowledge of mathematics in students.
